This incident, regardless of who may or may not have been at fault, serves as yet another reminder that all road users have to pay attention to what is going on around them.
As one who frequents the roads of Boulder County on my bicycle, I can testify* that there are far too many motorists and cyclists who are oblivious to their surroundings. This applies to Left Hand Canyon and elsewhere.
Two words of advice: Pay attention.
A few more: If you’re on a bicycle, always assume that motorists can’t see you because they’re not paying attention. You will be right much of the time.
* More soon on my credentials as an expert witness and on what I wish cyclists would all do.
