“No kill” doesn’t mean no animals are killed

When I first heard of the no kill concept in animal shelters, I thought it meant no killing.

Apparently it is similar to no fat and similar constructions that can’t be taken too literally.

There can be small amounts of fat in no fat foods, according to FDA rules, and thousands of animals that end up in no kill shelters are, in fact, killed.

Reduced kill would be more appropriate, not to mention accurate, but letting people think the killing has stopped just seems so merciful.

Or is it just catchier?
